West Introduction to Graduate Studies in Human Relations 12/4/13 While perusing Modern Human Relations at Work I discovered data that I basically expected to discover in a book regarding this matter. I discovered some particular examinations that I had not found out about previously and beliefs that I saw as evident in principle, yet less by and by. We will compose a custom exposition test on Human Relations: A Personal Experience or then again any comparable theme just for you Request Now The standard inquiries of whether a glad laborer is a gainful specialist and do open entryway approaches work were tended to. Ten years back I would have perused this reading material in an entirely different way, with a totally unexpected erspective in comparison to I do today. I may have seen the standards of authoritative human relations with an expectation that individuals can really work in situations where there are bosses and subordinates can keep up a feeling of regard and mankind towards each other, yet that has not generally been my experience. The old articulation ââ¬Å"itââ¬â¢s desolate at the topâ⬠can be deciphered in a few different ways; there are relatively few big enchiladas out there, or that the higher you go the less time you need to blend with the humble, or the less you truly care to, or the misinformed conviction that you ought to have a willful division . Whatever the significance or reason one thing is consistent with my understanding; associations are really not tactless social orders and keeping in mind that they, in principle, ought to comprehend human relations superior to anybody, they practice almost no of what they maintain to lecture. I don't intend to give the feeling that I don't comprehend the requirement for pecking orders and the significant job they play in proficient associations, it isn't the worldview, yet the players, with which I take issue. In this paper I might want to address the two territories that were of most noteworthy enthusiasm to me as they apply to my encounters working inside huge associations. The main territory alluded to the essentials of human relations and incorporated an investigation led by the Hawthorne plant of Western Electric in Illinois that I discovered fascinating. The second examined the administration of contention among people and associations and included activities that organizations can use to manufacture more grounded connections between botn I wou d like to catch my considerations on these regions trom both hypothetical and down to earth points of view. The book characterized human relations as follows: ââ¬Å"The process by which the executives carries laborers into contact with the association so that the destinations of oth bunches are accomplished is human relationsâ⬠(pg. 5) and takes the perspective of the administrator. While the organization and the laborer share a typical reason for being effective and bringing in cash, the specialist likewise has objectives that the organization could conceivably know about or worried about. Effective human relations tends to both the organization and the laborer and finds a palatable answer for all needs. This, as I would see it, is the place most organizations donââ¬â¢t appear to have the option to take care of business. It isn't sufficient for an association to state that they care about their laborers, what their needs are, what their suppositions are and how they can best utilize their gifts to nhance the association, there must be finish and this is the thing that normally doesn't occur. You just need to take a gander at a companyââ¬â¢s turnover of workers to get a smart thought of their demeanor towards human relations. I went through 10 years working for an association that really couldn't have cared less at about their laborers, however they purported to. It is my involvement in this specific association, which I will consider Agency X that I will allude in this paper. Organization X has a high turnover for a few reasons, one of which is the measure of pressure that accompanies the Job and the econd is the reaction, or scarcity in that department, with respect to the office to attempt to comprehend, lighten, or even recognize the way that the requirements of the laborers are not being met. So while I read through the book, I guess I was progressively Jaded and had a more critical mentality than I ought to have, however I really accept that couple of organizations really care about human relations by and by. I found the Hawthorne examines fascinating in that it demonstrated that a specialist who feels that they are esteemed and has some degree of relationship with those they work with is profitable and that the nature of the management they get impacts the uality and amount of their work (pg. 9). At the point when I worked for Agency X I was a caseworker for a long time and had an administrator who genuinely minded and was worried for the prosperity of her laborers and the effect the Job was having on us. This manager worked admirably of protecting us from the bureaucratic issues that originated from above. She accepted that the nature of administrations to customers and the necessities of the laborers were both similarly as significant. Following 4 years she changed Jobs and I was elevated to her position, it was at this equivalent time that our agreement was acquired by another enormous office and out of nowhere things changed. While I kept on overseeing in the manner I had been instructed, guaranteeing that what should have been done was done, that customers were getting the most ideal administrations and that laborers were not wearing out and were dealing with themselves I started to see the distinctions in field work and center administration. I was blamed for indulging my laborers at whatever point I attempted to make things somewhat simpler for them. Note that we worked with manhandled youngsters and families in unpredictable circumstances that necessary a gigantic measure of movement and field time (we were not kid government assistance). Let me give a case of a laborer who was near wearing out. We had both been at a home in the nation where the circumstance got delicate and unstable and we concluded that it was ideal to leave. After we had driven away (we took separate vehicles) my specialist headed over to the roadside and just stayed there. I pulled in behind ner and Just watched tor a tew seconds thinking about whether she would escape the vehicle, yet she didn't. I approached her window to discover her in tears. I permitted her to vent her emotions and dissatisfactions lastly I recommended to her that she return home for the remainder of the day (it was early Friday evening) and invest energy with her girls and not consider work until Monday morning. I told my specialist that we would meet in my office on the Monday and discussion about what we expected to do ensure her needs and the necessities of the customer were being met. While this was a suitable answer for me, I was then ââ¬Å"counseledâ⬠as I advised my laborer to return home when she had not rounded out a ââ¬Å"request for leaveâ⬠structure. That was my first sign that Agency X couldn't have cared less at about my laborer, all they thought about was a bit of paper that they would not have gotten until timesheets were turned in the next week in any case. So I endured that shot, marked y bit of paper that said I was an awful director that day and never let out the slightest peep to my laborer about it. Human relations works at a laborer level and even at a center administration level on the off chance that you have a chief who cares at all about you, however it is just a motto on a banner for those in upper administration. The HR model illustrated on page 11 of our book gives 4 frameworks that an office can fall into when managing human relations. I feel that an office can fall into a few frameworks one after another. I think those in center administration despite everything consider their to be as important resources that ought not be handily disposed of. Center anagement have better associations with their laborers and presumably fall between framework 3 (consultive majority rule) and framework 4 (participative popularity based) contingent upon to what extent the subordinate and predominant have been cooperating. Upper administration would have you accept that their office is participative popularity based, however they are, as a general rule, altruistic dictatorial (framework 2) where loftiness and discipline are the primary staples of the executives. It was constrained upon me ordinarily that I should isolate myself from my laborers and ensure they comprehended we were ââ¬Å"not the sameâ⬠. While I comprehend that it isn't generally insightful for managers o be companions with laborers, we don't have to sit in ivory towers looking down on them either. There is a fair compromise that upper administration disregard. As I advanced in Agency X, I was elevated again to Regional Director and was liable for administrations every one of the 16 districts in Southwest Oklahoma. This was my solitary involvement in upper administration and I want to ââ¬Å"go thereâ⬠once more. Being a bank to the world brought about the biggest development of a budgetary economy to that point. Banks during the 1920s were with either the accident or the ensuing sorrow of the 1930s. The first was the section of the Banking Act of 1933 that accommodated the Federal Deposit Insurance framework and the Glass-Steagall arrangements that totally isolated business banking and protections exercises. Second was simply the downtu rn, which drove at long last to World War II and a 30-year time frame in which banking was restricted to essential, slow-developing store taking and advance creation inside a constrained nearby market as it were. What's more, third was the rising significance of the administration in choosing money related issues, particularly during the post-war recuperation period. As an outcome, there was relatively little for banks or protections firms to do from the mid 1930s until the mid 1960s. This book highlights a historical memoir of a well-known Venetian explorer named Marco Polo but focuses around a specific dialogue and a series of stories shared between Kublai Khan, emperor of Mongolia, and his right-hand man Polo in the late 1200ââ¬â¢s. This concept of writing emphasizes the aspects of humanity and social consequences in generic city makeup and the way we become trapped in the metaphorical ââ¬Å"inferno of livingâ⬠. Considering the use of emotive language and descriptive scenarioââ¬â¢s presented in the dialogue throughout the text, the author is able to impose the element of imagination onto the viewer when stating the differences in both characters denomination and language that forms a barrier, left open to interpretation. Difficulty in verbal communication meant that the two of them had to communicate through symbolic gestures, movements, pictures and objects to correspond with each other. In the beginning of the book, Marco Polo speaks of the cities, of which he visits, in great detail to Khan. The Emperor continues to listen but questions Poloââ¬â¢s ideas and memories when he begins to notice a pattern in his accounts and queries their authenticity. Sleep Deprivation Is A Condition That Many Introduction Sleep deprivation is a condition that many individuals have faced at some point in their life. The National Institute of Health categorizes sleep complications into two conditions known as sleep deprivation and sleep deficiency. According to the National Institute of Health an individual is experiencing sleep deprivation or deficiency if they haven t received the adequate amount of sleep or if they do not sleep well (National Institute of Health, 2007). An adult should receive approximately 7-8 hours of sleep per night in order to get a full nightââ¬â¢s rest. About 70.6 percent of college students worldwide report obtaining less than eight hours of sleep, therefore they are considered sleep deprived (Hershner and Chervin,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Homeostatic process S is when the body is reliant on the accumulation of sleep-inducing (hypnogenic) substance in the brain, so while the need for sleep increases the wakefulness also continues (Goel, 2017). Circadian process C is wh en the body suggests control of an ââ¬Å"endogenous circadian pacemaker,â⬠which is the bodyââ¬â¢s internal process and alertness levels. Both processes impact the wake/sleep cycle. When a person gets about seven to eight hours of sleep you hit a stage of sleep called REM sleep, which is the last stage of sleep (Nevid, 2013, p. 173). ââ¬Å"REM sleep normally occurs every 90-120 minutes approximately 4-5 times in a typical night, with each REM sleep period growing progressively longer, with the last episode near rise timeâ⬠(Hershner, 2014). When an individual lacks a full night of sleep they may become a little ââ¬Å"groggyâ⬠the next day, but will still be able to push through the day. Affects from Sleep Deprivation In addition, sleep deprivation slows down a personââ¬â¢s reaction time, impairs their attention, concentration, and problem solving ability, which makes it difficult for remembering things. ââ¬Å"As many as 15 percent of Americans donââ¬â¢t get the help they need because of lifestyle factors, such as demanding work schedules and caregiving responsibilitiesâ⬠(Minerd Jasmer, 2006). The warm, sunny July day started out just like any other day during the summer of 91. My mother and father had left for work and left my two brothers Donnie 19 and Andre 18 to baby-sit me. We woke up around 9:30 AM, and got dressed to go to the store to pick up the items for lunch. We returned home at 11:15 A. M. I ran off to my room to catch the last 45 min of The Young and the Restless. Donnie went to the kitchen to begin preparation for lunch. At 11:30 while in the kitchen preparing the hamburger meat, and heating the grease for the tarter tots, Andre asked him to cut his hair. Donnie said, sure go get the stuff ready. While the grease was heating Donnie and Andre went into the bathroom to cut hair. By 11:45 they were done cutting each others hair and Donnie walked into the kitchen, while Andre cleaned up the bathroom. As soon as Donnie placed a handful of tarter tots into the grease it bubbled up and over the pot and on to the stove. Once on the stove the grease and fire contacte d each other, it ignited the stove on fire. From the stove it spread over the linoleum counter top and crawled up the wall above the stove. The fire spread across the ceiling and over to the opposing wall, burning the curtains on the window. It stopped and reversed directions to the adjoining wall on the left. It burnt a small enough hole to go between the wall and the foundation to burn the wires to the dishwasher. While this was happening Donnie had picked up the pot, still on fire, with pot holders, and tried to throw it out the back door, but failed because the gate was locked. Next he tried to make it to the front door about 100 feet from the back door, but didnââ¬â¢t make it because the pot holders caught on fire and were burning his hands. He dropped the pot, still on fire next to yellow and brown chair in the living room. He then proceed to run out side to get the water house and bring it into the house to put on the pot, but that just made things worse. Andre, hearing al l the noise ran out of the bathroom to see what was going on. He yelled for me to get out of the house, and runs into the kitchen. I didnââ¬â¢t really know what was going on, I too had heard the noise but didnââ¬â¢t pay attention because it was my brother. When Andre yelled for me to leave the house I knew something was wrong. There was nothing that I could do but stand at the door and watch what was going on. While Donnie made several attempt to put the fire out I was laughing to myself, because he was doing weird and stupid things. I wasnââ¬â¢t thinking about calling for help or that someone might seriously be hurt, all I wanted to know was what was happening. The walls, curtains, and dishwasher were still on fire. He, Andre, grabbed the baking soda and ran into the living room to put out the pot. Meanwhile Donnie took the hose to the kitchen and tried to put the walls out, but that didnââ¬â¢t work. Andre pulled Donnie back and started throwing Baking soda on the walls and the counter until the fire was out. With the fire out, we still had an extremely hot pot on the floor burning a hole in it. Donnie picked up the pot, and took it outside burning his hand even worse. The only other damage the pot did was scorch the chair. The walls in the kitchen were pitch black and we had no electricity in the front half the house or the basement. Donnie called his girlfriend at work to come and help us clean up the mess. He then called his best-friend to takes him to the doctor to treat his hand. The only damage to the whole house was the kitchen and no power in the front half of the house. We are lucky because sitting right next to the stove was a can of Pam, and it didnââ¬â¢t exploded like it could make the situation worse. We tried to clean the house up as much as we could, but after everything was done and said we were all laughing. The rest of the summer was spent at what used to be called the Ramada Inn on 87th and 435, while they repainted the whole house and remodeled the kitchen. We were all worried that our parents would be upset, but they surprised us and were happy that no one was seriously hurt. To this day we make jokes about that day and my parents tell my brother A watched pot never boils. I had heard my mother say that time and time before, but I never knew what it meant until that day. Now looking back on that day I realize that I should be thankful that no one was hurt and that the fire didnââ¬â¢t burn the whole house down. I guess laughing was my way of dealing with all the mixed emotion that I was feeling at the time. .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e , .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e .postImageUrl , .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e , .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e:hover , .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e:visited , .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e:active { border:0!important; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e:active , .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9cf67a7081703d88b116cce82918771e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Christopher Columbus EssayCreative Writing tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467315182696236809.post-42404905480389267092020-04-22T22:34:00.001-07:002020-04-22T22:34:02.866-07:00The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Essay Paper Example For Students The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Essay Paper Huck is very responsive to the beauty of the natural world about him. He uses vivid imagery to describe nature in a peculiar way, which one can even consider out of character for him. His word choice, general attitude, use of literary devices, and the use of words which describe the sounds as they happened, all add to his vivid description of the summer storm. Hucks reaction is unusual because up to this point in the story the impression of Huck that the reader has is one of a wild, uneducated boy running away from home. The reader does not expect Huck to analyze nature by using thought provoking similes Hucks use of action words contribute greatly to the descriptiveness of his account of the summer storm. These words add to the thrust and movement of his description. Directly it begun to rainrained like all furynever see the wind blow so (43). and the rain would thrash along by so thick.blast of wind.. (43+44). These descriptions keep the description moving and keeps the interest of the reader. They invoke common experiences that everyone has experienced. After reading these action words, the reader begins to develop a image of what it was like to be Huck at that point. This image is further aided by other factors. We will write a custom essay on The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Paper specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The other factors that influence the image the reader perceives are: word use, literary devices, allusions to common experiences, and specific details. Some of the specific details include use of color and descriptions of the environment. Vivid descriptions such as, It would get so dark that it looked all blue-black outside, and lovely; and the rain would thrash along by so thick that the trees off a little ways looked dim and spider-webby; and here would come a blast of wind that would bend the trees down and turn up the pale underside of the leaves; and then a perfect ripper of a gust would follow along and set the branches to tossing their arms as if they was just wild; and next, when it was just about the bluest and blackest ââ¬â fst! It was as bright as glory, and youd have a little glimpse of treetops a-plunging about away off yonder in the storm, hundreds of yards further than you could see before; dark as sin again in a second, and now youd hear the thunder let go with an awful crash, and then go rumbling, grumbling, tumbling, down the sky towards the under side of the world, like rolling empty barrels down-stairs ââ¬â where its long stairs and they bounce a good deal, you know (44). That one sentence encompasses all of the techniques and provides an excellent description. It uses personification, alliteration, allusions, personification, and others. Huck uses several onomatopoeias in his description of the storm. In addition to painting a picture in the readers mind, because of his use of onomatopoeias, the reader can also experience and hear the scene and the storm as if he/she were actually there. Huck uses four words to describe how thunder sounded. The first is fst, when it was just about the bluest and blackest fst! It was as bright as glory (44). The other three are: rumbling, grumbling, and tumbling. and now youd hear the thunder let go with an awful crash, and then go rumbling, grumbling, tumbling, down the sky towards the under side of the world (44). Huck then uses one simile in paricular to further exemplify the sound of the thunder and to create a better scene for the reader. tumbling, down the sky towards the under side of the world, like rolling empty barrels down-stairs ââ¬â where its long stairs and they bounce a good deal, you know (44). This simile enhances this description of the storm in a few ways. The last part, you know (44) adds more character to the description. It is beginning to sound more like a child, Huck. Also, anyone can imagine what rolling barrels down a long set of stairs sound like and when the reader really thinks about it, he/she realizes that, that is what thunder sounds like. .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 , .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 .postImageUrl , .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 , .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7:hover , .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7:visited , .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7:active { border:0!important; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7:active , .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7 .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u51be2aedea6dc5b2ecbe043b695130d7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Drug addiction and abuse EssayHucks vivid description of thunder, both visually and audibly, add to his personality and allows the reader to experience a different side of Huck. Huck is not just a naive child who is oblivious to natural wonders. He is responsive to the beauty of the natural world about him. There is more to him then meets the eye. Huck shows the reader this by his choice of words and the way in which he describes the summer storm. His uses literary devices to his advantage and to further his points. Huck shows he is not a shallow character and can be serious if he wants to. tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467315182696236809.post-3899693478708294042020-03-17T02:48:00.001-07:002020-03-17T02:48:03.520-07:00Ulterior and AlteriorUlterior and Alterior Ulterior and Alterior Ulterior and Alterior By Maeve Maddox A reader brought alterior to my attention by asking if a use of ââ¬Å"ulterior motiveâ⬠he read in an article should have been ââ¬Å"alterior motive.â⬠Although I found several speculative ââ¬Å"definitionsâ⬠of alterior on various sites, neither the OED nor Merriam-Webster offers an entry for this word. Because it seems always to occur with motive or motives, I conclude that alterior is an error for ulterior. The adjective ulterior derives from Latin ulterior: ââ¬Å"further, more distant.â⬠An ulterior motive is one that lies beyond the apparent motive. For example, when a popular product develops a feature that makes the product more convenient, the apparent motive is to make the product easier for the customer to use. The ulterior motive is to earn more money by selling more merchandise. The mistaken use of alterior is especially common on sites related to emotional involvements, television, sports, and political opinion. Here are some examples, with corrections: INCORRECT: Im not convinced hes doing anything out of the kindness of his heart for women or anyone. Feels like he always has alterior motives.- Soap opera blog. CORRECT : Im not convinced hes doing anything out of the kindness of his heart for women or anyone. Feels like he always has ulterior motives. INCORRECT: The thing that bothers me the most is that there is no honesty or real emotion into anything that they say. Everything they say has an alterior motive.- Therapy blog. CORRECT : The thing that bothers me the most is that there is no honesty or real emotion in anything that they say. Everything they say has an ulterior motive. INCORRECT: People like to put on fronts and might have alterior motives when you dont have a shared history that can easily fool you.- Quora user. CORRECT : People like to put on fronts and might have ulterior motives when you dont have a shared history that can easily fool you. INCORRECT: The [remarks of] the salesman sounded like they came from a politician. He seemed to dodge every question, whether it be from lack of knowledge or alterior motives I dont know.- Yelp review. CORRECT : The [remarks of] the salesman sounded like they came from a politician. He seemed to dodge every question, whether it be from lack of knowledge or ulterior motives I dont know. INCORRECT: I usually appreciate good sportsmanship, but that was just weird. It was very obvious that there was an alterior motive, because of the way the groups were separated.à - TV fan blog. The team reflects the coach, if heââ¬â¢s successful so will you be. The coach needs to be disciplined and teach the fundamentals of the game. They should instill moral values into the team. Basic basketball will make the team better. Basic basketball includes ball handling, proper form, offense, and etc. It may seem boring and stupid but it really makes you a better team and player. Players want a coach who will teach them the game. If the coach is a stickler for defense, your team can beat anyone. The fundamentals of defense can make a good team great and lower tier teams competitive. The defense will lead to offense and things will come easier for your team. Once youââ¬â¢ve mastered the basics the goals that have been set for the team will seem reachable and easier. The confidence of the team will sky rocket and results will follow. ââ¬Å"I teach the kids every aspect of the game and the basics that will make them successful,â⬠said Coach Mike. You need to make touch decisions and sacrifices to be successful. Nothing comes easily especially in this profession. You have to outwork your opposition and be prepared. Being in the gym and loving the game gives you many advantages over other coaches. Being around the game teaches you more and makes you aware of every situation. Yelling isnââ¬â¢t the only way to motivate players. There are many other ways to do so. Sometimes yelling may do more harm than good and hurt the teams psyche. Players will start to resent the coach and start to distance themselves. Once the morale and confidence is broken down the team will start to suffer the consequences. There are certain times when yelling is appropriate but it shouldnââ¬â¢t be used all the time and coaches should never single players out in front of the entire team. The coach should yell for a purpose, but also bring your confidence up at the same time and encourage you to do better. There shouldnââ¬â¢t be false hope put into playerââ¬â¢s heads because of the coachââ¬â¢s ego. Players would start to lose respect for him. They really listen to what the coaches have to tell them and take it to heart. It really means a lot to them what you tell them. One of the reasons John Wooden was successful as a basketball coach was because he was the best teacher at the sport and taught his players life skills. He didnââ¬â¢t win ten national championships because he had talent. He won because he taught fundamentals and basic basketball. He instilled in his players that fundamentals is the key to success. To this day his players still use what he taught them and take that with them as they move on with their lives. He was a coach and a father to the players. He always compared how life was like basketball and the players understood what he meant. John Wooden made the Pyramid of Success. The Pyramid of Success consists of twenty-five behaviors that Wooden felt you needed to be successful in not only basketball, but also in life. The top two behaviors are faith and patience. He followed those behaviors and taught his players those behaviors until his dying days. Phil Jackson is also another great coach. He is unique just like John Wooden. They never felt the need to yell. Jackson is the Zen Master and isnââ¬â¢t a yeller. Heââ¬â¢s unique because unlike most coaches he trusts his team and lets them play instead of calling timeouts when his team gets into ruts. Most coaches would be infuriated and quickly call a timeout but not him. He sits back and lets them play through difficult periods. He doesnââ¬â¢t coach every player the same and understands the needs of what each player needs to succeed. Jackson knows his players and all their strengths and weaknesses. Another wonderful thing is he taught the two best players the game has ever had to offer: Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, that playing within the concept of the team is the only way to win. An excellent leader leads to an excellent coach. With the confidence and swagger that they have to offer it rubs off on the team. The team needs someone to follow and look up to. Players have to respect the coach. Respect is a major aspect of the game. The team should want to live and die by the coach. Conducting a great practice is a great aspect of any coach. Practice should be conducted with the needs of the team and show progress throughout the year. It is a way for coaches to see what you can bring to the team. Practice makes perfect and for every coach they live and die by that saying. All in all the coach is the catalyst to the team. They are everything to the team and the team thrives off their energy. Industry Analysis The global financial industry including banks suffered a major setback after the advent of the financial crisis that engulfed t he entire financial markets. After a period of continuous slowdown the banking industry is expected to witness positive growth rates following improvements in the overall macroeconomic outlook of the world. This was mainly possible because of the strong support provided by the governments to bailout the financial institutions who were on the brink of a severe crisis. A study by the Boston Consulting group pegs the total value of market capitalisation of the global banking industry at 6.4 trillion US dollars which is more than double of the figures of the previous years. The total shareholder returns offered by the banking industry was at its highest since the onset of global recession in 2003 and as valued at 47.1 percent (The Boston Consulting Group, 2010, p.1-2). Figure 1: World Economic Outlook Projections (Source: Reserve Bank of India, 2011, p.17) The figure above indicates a strong positive outlook for the forthcoming years. The interesting part of this is that along with the developing economies the positive trend can also be traced to the developed economies who bore the maximum brunt of the economic recession (Reserve Bank of India, 2011, p.15-20). However, most of the people are not aware of it. Psychologists have been focusing on how these repressed, and subconscious emotions play an active role throughout life since the early twentieth century. The ââ¬ËFather of Psychologyââ¬â¢, Sigmund Freud, theorized a system of categorizing individualââ¬â¢s mental life into three parts: the id, the ego, and the superego. The id is the primitive part of a personality that respond directly to the human instinct; the ego is the decision-making component, and it develops to satisfy between the lust of the id and the external world; the superego is the preconscious part of the personality that deals with moral judgment. Many authors have incorporated this theory into their works by means of the characters. The novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, tells a story about the end of the innocence and the beginning of the savagery t hat a group of British children left stranded on a beautiful island after a plane crash, and they were immersed in freedom until the human nature took over. Golding utilizes Jack, Ralph, and Piggy who are the primary characters to interpret Freudââ¬â¢s concepts of this three types of human personality, respectively. First of all, Jack is the best concerned with the personality suggested by id. He represents the dark side of human nature, and he displays the id mentality through his violent actions. He had tried to maintain civilized before he started hunting. However, it does not remain constant. It fades soon while he is driven by his desires. The dictator becomes dominant in his personality. Following his desires, every time the first thing that comes to his mind is always to kill or hurt others. While Jack and his boys are managing to kill a wild boar, they begin dancing and saying, ââ¬Å"[k]ill the pig. Cut her throat. Bash her inâ⬠(Golding 79). This chart indicates the unit desires among them and it also becomes a symbol of their savagery. It is obviously not a primary need but only meant for fun and pleasure. They are now driven by the innate desire for destruction. Furthermore, according to the ââ¬Ëpleasure principleââ¬â¢, it seeks to avoid pain and unpleasantness in order to satisfy oneââ¬â¢s biological and psychological needs. It is not bad enough to have desires but to act upon it. Jack does so to a mother sow, ââ¬Å"Jack [is] on top of the sow, stabbing downward with his knifeâ⬠¦the spear move[s] forward inch by inch and the terrified squealing [becomes] a high-pitched scream. Then Jack [finds] the throat and the hot blood spout[s] over his handsâ⬠(Golding 149). The imagery and action indicate that Jack does things without thought of any consequences, only for his own impulsive desires. Like the id aims to take over the thought in oneââ¬â¢s mind without determining the needs of others rather than reality and morality. Secondly, Golding portrays Ralph as an embodiment of ego that makes sure to satisfy all the needs and wants of the id in a way that seems proper in todayââ¬â¢s world, which means that ego not only interacts with conscious but also the unconscious mind. Ralph is the chief and one of the most influential boys in this little society. He constantly acts as a democratic leader that balancing between the id and superego. For instance, realizing Jackââ¬â¢s desire of being the chief, Ralph gives him control of the hunting team, ââ¬Å"Ralph look[s] at him, eager to offer something. ââ¬ËThe choir belongs to you, of course.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ ¦The suffusion drained away from Jackââ¬â¢s faceâ⬠(Golding 19). He cares about othersââ¬â¢ feelings and does something realistic that is allowed by the society. At the same time, he fulfills Jackââ¬â¢s desire to be a leader to a certain extent. This reasonable action, which is controlled by the ego, also satisfies the urges of id in a so cially accepted way. Moreover, Ralph has a strong sense of responsibility. While he is complaining to Piggy that the other boys do not care about the importance of the fire going, he makes a confession, ââ¬Å" ââ¬Ë[s]upposing I got to like the othersââ¬ânot caring. What ââ¬â¢up become of usââ¬â¢ â⬠(Golding 153). He is more conscious of the society rather than himself. Ralph is a neutral leader as he identifies the savagery of it and the morality of superego in order to come up with a realistic situation for the public. Like the ego represents the rational aspect of the mind, and maintains peace and stability. To end with, Piggy personifies the concept of superego to carry out the instinctual moral good most of the times. Golding represents Piggy as being more logically and intellectually mature than the others. Acting as the voice of reason, the superego inside his personality moralizes him as a sympathetic and sensible boy and guides him to choose what is morally right. While Jack leads the boys to make noise and rush, ââ¬Å"Ralph [is] left, holding the conch, with no one but Piggyâ⬠(Golding 37). As the mob is full of noise and movement, Piggy does not follow Jack in overexcitement, rather he keeps calm and stays with the chief. His superego dominates him to maintain civilization. He displays consistent attention to societal rulings and feels like structure is the most important thing to the boys. Whatsmore, Piggy is willing to contribute to the society. He is ââ¬Å"so full of pride in his contribution to the good of society, that he helped to fetch woodâ⬠(Golding 142). The moral goodness and devoted nature of Piggy come from his instinct human nature. Like the superego meets the ethical standards by which the ego operates. The existence of too much discrimination in the south. The availability of job opportunities in Chicago factories and WWI demand for workers. The decent pay for work done. The jobs in Chicago paid good and reasonable money. The Chicago Defender ads in the north held out the optimism of a better life. In regard to the above reasons, about 75,000 immigrants came to north from the southern region of the Chicago as early as from 1916 to 1920s. Among the immigrants were the very creative persons in the south. Jazz artists came from New Orleans to perform music in Chicago, New York and Kansas. Blues artists arrived from the Delta. The NAACP warmly welcomed the writers and poets such as the sculptor Augusta savage, poet Langston Hughes, and writer Zola Neale Hurston. Together with poet Countee Cullen and among other black artists, they formed a cultural explosion termed Harlem Renaissance. The immigrants came to be par t of an already booming African American community on the southern side of Chicago. Before the Storyville was closed Chicago could boast of great musical talent and prominent venues such as the sheet music, at 2700 south state, that featured Pekin Theatre from 1904. In respect to the Chicago Defender, Erskine Tate performed violin recital for the first time in 1910, in Chicago. He was the leader of Vendome orchestra. In 1906, Wilbur Sweatman played an amazing clarinet in Chicago. Moreover, Jelly Roll Morton presided over a band at the Richelieu and Elite #2 Cafes and the DeLuxe in the course of 1914 and 1915. Also, many different New Orleans had already performed at the north before 1917. The famous band of Brown was the first band to come to the north in the 1915. By the time Sidney Bechet, King Oliver, Freddie Keppard and other prominent New Orleans musicians set a foot in north to rub musical shoulders in 1918 with local talent, the classic style of New Orleans artists had already started to transform an indifference to local tastes. tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467315182696236809.post-78144388026770749452019-12-30T16:55:00.001-08:002019-12-30T16:55:04.210-08:00Abortion Is Not A Social Problem - 1924 Words According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, abortion is the termination of a pregnancy that results in, is accompanied by, after, or closely followed by the death of a fetus or embryo. Abortion is not a social problem that has developed strictly in America in recent years. In fact, the legality of abortion has been debated as early as 1588 when ââ¬Å"Pope Sixtus V issued a papal bull forbidding abortion as punishment for the sexual sin of intercourseâ⬠(Rose, p xiii, 2008). A little over two hundred years later, United States President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Comstock Act, which forbid the delivery of contraceptives. During the years from 1918-1968; Ruth Barnett, of Portland, Oregon, performed tens of thousands of illegal (though, safe) abortions. As one can see thorough history, abortion has always been debated and considered a social problem. In America, laws regarding abortion started showing up in the nineteenth century. In 1821, the first statutory abortion regulatio n was put in place (in Connecticut) to protect women from abortion by way of poison. In 1856, it was legal in most states to receive an abortion during the first trimester. However, Dr. Horatio Storer, a pro-life advocate, established a national drive by the American Medical Association (AMA) to end all legal abortions (Timeline of abortion laws and events, n.d.). The company Green Mountain Coffee Roaster started in Vermont and currently employees about 5,800 people. After the acquiring of Keurig Green Mountain the company has reported the working of three major operating systems known as the specialty coffee business, the Keurig coffee business, and the Canadian coffee business, these forms of business have helped evolve the firm into the super coffee giant it is today. The forms of business that Green Mountain has incorporated allows for brewing at home and away from home and involves not just coffee but other forms of beverages including hot chocolate. With the current fiscal year ending Green Mountain has reported sales of $3,859. 2 million dollars. This report shows the increase in earnings just within the business segment, showing a profit of 46 percent compared to the previous years earnings. We will write a custom essay sample on Green mountain or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page SWOT ANALYSIS Green Mountain Strengths: Strong company imagine with a loyal customer base. Flexibility with Keurig coffee single servings and units being sold. An Established name brand. Strategic partnerships with other coffee brands and beverages to provide an array of options. Weakness Only one source of manufacturer located in China. High level of dependence on certain retailers in order to provide certain beverages to their consumers. Opportunities Ability to partner with new vendors in order to increase profitability. With Keurig units being sold new types of beverages open the doors to future Keurig single servings to be sold. Threats: Higher competition of coffee shops such as Dunkin Donuts who also offer a take home coffee blend. High competition with other coffee makers including instantaneous coffee. High cost of Keurig Unit and single serving cups. Impact of the economy on Keurig considered a luxury compared to more affordable options. ANALYSIS VIA PORTERââ¬â¢S FIVE FORCES MODEL Taking a look at the business model that Green Mountain offers, their main consumer base that have bought Keurig units allow them to use the K-cups single servings for different kinds of coffee blends. The Company also has the advantage that more than half of the adults in the U. S and Canada drink coffee; however the dependency on specialty coffee and the cost of Keurig could post a problem depending on the recovery of the economy and the cost of the K-cups. Lastly the risk of new completion such as current coffee retailers and instant coffee can pose a problem in regards to price compared to Keurig; however Green Mountain does provide an online website which allows consumers to purchase products such as K-cups and Keurig Units at a discounted price. Because of this online availability Green Mountain holds some grounds for its livelihood in the world of coffee. STRATEGY USED The Strategy that Green Mountain is using and the methods of their company that they stand by today is to offer an environment friendly way of making and distributing quality coffee. Green Mountain has lived on the notion that you donââ¬â¢t have to go to a coffee store to get quality coffee. By allowing consumers to pick and choose their favorite blends of coffee, Green Mountain has allowed the ability of quality coffee to be brewed in the luxury of your own home. By incorporating the use of the internet, Green Mountain has eliminated the need of a store front by allowing consumers to purchase their products directly on-line. However Green Mountain has also partnered with outside vendors allowing their products to be sold indirectly, once again allowing the consumer an array of options to choose from. The major issues and challenges that face this organization is the manufacturing being solely based and manufactured in China. If the manufacturer one day decides to up the cost of the work being performed Green Mountain would take a significant loss or be forced to find manufacturing partners elsewhere. Another huge issue is the dependency on specialty coffee and price. If the economy once gain falls as it recently did, Green Mountain Keurig would be considered more of a luxury when so many different affordable alternatives exist. If I was in the position of the company looking to gain the competitive advantage I would start offering the Keurig Unit for free or at least at a lower price, instead of charging consumers close to a hundred dollars and up making it hard to make that decision, especially for the average family on a fixed budget. Secondly when taking into consideration how to retain existing customers and bring in new customers, discounting the Keurig unit will result in consumers automatically buying the K-cups at the store or online since they already have the unit. At the end of the day you want to have a sticky but yet affordable product, one that will be hard to leave once you have experienced it. OPINION I liked the case study it allowed me to examine what a company goes through and what great things separate companies from one another. It also helped me create a solution for improving the profitability of a company. In the end, this case study really made you think of all the options available to the company and the best route they should take in order to ensure their livelihood in the business world. tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467315182696236809.post-66523063419881141262019-11-28T23:29:00.001-08:002019-11-28T23:29:03.891-08:00A Child Called It EssaysA Child Called It Essays A Child Called It Essay A Child Called It Essay A Child Called It is a first-person narrative of a severely abused child, Dave Pelzer, who has survived to tell his tale. This book is a brief, horrifying account of the bizarre tortures Daves mother inflicted on him, told from his point of view as a young boy. Among the cruel games Daves maniac, alcoholic mother played were smashing him face-first into mirrors, forcing him to eat the contents of his baby brothers diaper, drinking ammonia, and burning him over a gas stove. Daves story has two objectives: the first is to inform the reader how a loving, caring parent can change to a cold, abusive monster venting frustrations on a helpless child; the second is the eventual survival and triumph of the human spirit over seemingly insurmountable odds (164). Dave describes his earlier years as idyllic: In the years before I was abused, my family was the Brady Brunch of the 1960s. My two brothers and I were blessed with the perfect parents. Our every whim was fulfilled with love and care (17). His mothers behavior began to change drastically and Dave and his brothers had become afraid of her. Eventually, Dave was singled out for such vicious treatment. His mother made sure he knew that theres nothing he can do to impress her. She told him, you are a nobody! An It! You are nonexistent! You are a bastard child! I hate you and I wish you were dead! Dead! (140) School held no appeal to Dave either: At school I was a total outcast. I had no one to talk to or play with. I felt all alone (58). Since his mother rarely gave him the luxury of eating food, Dave resorted to stealing from his classmates lunch pails. The teachers and principal knew and carefully watched him. Oddly, his father never intervened. His attempts to talk to his wife about Dave failed, and only worsened the abuse. This caused Dave to hate his father: he was fully aware of the hell I lived in, but he lacked the courage to rescue me as he had promised so many times in the past (134). As the beatings and the torture continued, Dave began to give up: With no dreams, I found that words like hope and faith were only letters, randomly put together into something meaningless-words only for fairy tales (132). Inside, my soul became so cold I hated everything (133). Whats your single greatest accomplishment and why? Im so alive (155). My life as a child was extremely turbulent, being pushed and pulled in every direction. I tried as hard as I could to reach the light at the end of the dark tunnel, but it always seemed out of reach. Until suddenly, without warning, I broke free (156). What was your biggest obstacle? How did you overcome it? My mothers abusing me was no doubt my biggest obstacle. I hated Mother most and wished that she were dead. But before she died, I wanted her to feel the magnitude of my pain and my loneliness for all these years (134). As the years passed by and the beatings became more intense, I wished shed returned with a knife and ended it all.. My morale had become so low that in some self-destructive way I hoped she would kill me (141). But I made a promise to myself that kept me going. I wanted to show The Bitch that she could beat me only if I died, and I was determined not to give in, even to death (91). What one trait or characteristic would you most like to be remembered for? Why? I would definitely most like to be remembered for my resilience. Perhaps my faith and the security of my early years helped me develop enough resilience to survive the abuse and grow up to be an emotionally healthy adult with a child of my own. The challenges of my past have made me immensely strong inside. I adapted quickly, learning how to survive from a bad situation. I learned the secret of internal motivation. My experience gave me a different outlook on life, that others may never know. I have a vast appreciation for things that others may take for granted.. I hope that my story will help instill resilience in others. What was the single, most important thing youve learned? Why do you consider this so? The single, most important thing Ive learned from my past hardships was that even in its darkest passages, the heart is unconquerable. It is important that the body survives, but it is more meaningful that the human spirit prevails (165). I believe that no matter what happens in your past, you can overcome the dark side and press on to a brighter world. It is perhaps a paradox that without the abuse of my past, I might not be what I am today (166). My Reaction: I read A Child Called It in one day. Its one of those books you cant put down because you want to know whats going to happen next. I was always in constant suspense as to what Daves emotionally unstable mother was going to do to him and how he was going to survive the abuse. This book really sunk into my heart and the imagery used in the book helped put a clear picture of the dysfunctional household Dave lived in. The fact that this is a true story and millions of children suffer from the same ordeal saddens me. Also, the fact that he remembers all those horrible things that he went through in the past, in detail, is very sad. Im glad that Dave triumphed not only in finding a better, loving family, but also within himself. If I was in his shoes, I dont think Id be able to make it where he is today. His story truly changed my perspective on life. I realized how lucky I am to belong to a nice, tight-knit family and that I have it good compared to most people. tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467315182696236809.post-24286006916983438152019-11-25T07:03:00.001-08:002019-11-25T07:03:04.620-08:00charles dickens essayscharles dickens essays charles *censored*en's early life was greatly influential in his most famous novels. his childhood was full of tragedies and problems. *censored*ens needed to overcome several obstacles so that he could have a chance at an education. after defeating these hurdles, *censored*ens wrote the novels that have entertained many people for many generations. most of the obstacles that *censored*ens had to face were in his childhood. as a very young child, his father began to go into debt. eventually john *censored*ens was jailed for excessive debt and charles had to work at a boot blackening factory. *censored*ens was able to continue his education after hsi father received a legacy from a relative. not only was his childhood full of hardships, but his young adulthood years were also troublesome. *censored*en's early adulthood was another very infuential period of his life. he became more familiar with writing while working as a newspaper reporter and a free lance reporter in a commons court. also charles met his first love, maria beadnell. he broke off the relationship with her, and later wrote unflattering versions of her in several of his novels like in little dorrit. later *censored*ens met catherine hogart, and then married her. even though she died at a very young age, the had a son. *censored*ens used catherine as an influence in his famous novels. *censored*ens' most adored novel, a christmas carol is still used in many versions in today's society. many movies have come out about this wonderful story. the main character, scrooge, is a grumpy old man, who does not believe int he christmas season. he is met by 3 spirits during christmas eve. the 3 spirits show him the past present and future, so that he will learn how to be giving and loving. in the end of the story, scrooge's ice cold heart melts and he becomes a loving and caring man. a christmas carol is considered to be one on ... tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467315182696236809.post-86268753392616306272019-11-21T14:27:00.001-08:002019-11-21T14:27:03.721-08:00Crimnal Justice Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 wordsCrimnal Justice - Coursework Example The two killers also poured hydrochloric acid on the genitals, as well as the face of Frank with the aim of hiding the identity of their victim (Wolcott & Head, 2010). The primary characteristics of the wounds found on the victim were the marks of the chisel used to strike Frank in the head. In addition, there was a cloth that the criminals shoved down the throat of the victim, which led to suffocation that eventually killed Frank. Other primary characteristics included the disfigured face and genitals of Frank, which indicated that a corrosive had been poured on the boyââ¬â¢s body (Wolcott & Head, 2010). The key evidence in the crime scene was a pair of glasses, which belonged to one of the criminals (Leopold). As evidence, the glasses were traced to the original source, which was the seller. The original source was quite instrumental since it was useful in tracing the real owner of the glasses. From the investigation conducted, it was evident that the unique glasses had been sold by one of the stores in Chicago area. In the entire Chicago, only three pairs of such glasses had been sold, with one pair belonging to Leopold (Wolcott & Head, 2010). The motive for killing the victim was to eliminate any evidence and ensure that the criminals cannot be traced. If the culprits only asked for a ransom, and set their victim free, they could be easily identified since one of the killers was a cousin to the victim. The other possible motive for killing was to make headlines. The killers wanted to commit a crime that would attract countrywide and worldwide attention. They seemed to gain satisfaction from being read about in all newspapers about the crime they had committed (Wolcott & Head, 2010). The crime by Leopold and Loeb can be regarded as a homicide that falls under the category of first degree murder. This is because the two planned to kill their victim, Bobby Frank. Revenue bonds offer higher interest rates than general obligation bonds. This is because, they are somewhat riskier than general obligation bonds as they only rely on the revenue expected to be generated by the facility being built and secured by a specified source of revenue. The general obligation bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the issuing government and its taxing power, making it less risky thus offering the lowest yields. A general obligation bond rated Aa issued by a city. This it is riskier than that issued by the county as it relies on few projects for its repayment. General obligation bonds issued by a county are less risky because they are secured by the county government hence less interest rate on the debt being issued, meaning less returns to the investor. A municipal bond with maturity in 20 years will attract high interest because the longer the credit period, the riskier the debt. This is due to the fact that the future is unknown and the longer the maturity period the higher the risk, hence the issuer has to pay higher interest to compensate for the risk being tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467315182696236809.post-90700521669885424922019-11-18T11:44:00.001-08:002019-11-18T11:44:03.470-08:00Annotate bibliography Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 wordsAnnotate bibliography - Essay Example Thus, all the authors were accredited medical practitioners in wellness programs. Is it the language we speak, overall ethnicity in a region, or the simple customs of a daily routine? Culture is something we are all a part of whether we like it or not. Your family may have certain customs and routines. This is culture. In this research paper I will be analyzing British culture in four categories: history, ethnicity, customs, and also the future direction of British Culture. How did Britain become so rich in culture? Well Britain certainly did not just appear one day. The name of the country and the term ââ¬Å"Englishâ⬠derive from the Old English word for one of the three Germanic Peoples that invaded the British Isles in the 5th century (Countries and Their Cultures). The Angles ââ¬Å"Britainâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Britishâ⬠derive from a Roman Term for the inhabitants (Countries and Their Cultures). In fact, written records of British History do not exist until the arrival of the Romans (J.P. Dommerville). Before the arrival of the Romans, there is only archaeological evidence of Britainââ¬â¢s inhabitants (J.P. Sommerville). The earliest inhabitants of Britain for whom there is compelling evidence are bands of hunters living in Southern and Western England during the Hoxnian (J.P. Sommerville). Many peoples make up the rich history of British Culture. There were many immigrants that came to found The United Kingdom. Their genes still walk th e grounds today. Just like America this country was founded, and made by immigrants from many different backgrounds. Like many cultures, there are different peoples whom make up the general ethnicity. British Culture is no exception to this understanding. Britain or the U.K. known to others is located in Western Europe, islands including the northern one-sixth of the island of Ireland between the North Atlantic Ocean, and the North Sea, northwest of France (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). The capital of the United Kingdom is London (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). The population is roughly 60, 766, 238 people; with an ethnic make-up of White, Black, Indian, Pakistani, Mixed, and Other (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). The White Population is composed of: 83.6% English, 8.6% Scottish, 4.9% Welsh, and 2.9% Northern Irish (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). The other ethnic populations are composed of: 2% Black, 1.8% Indian, 1.3% Pakistani, 1.2% Mixed, and 1.6% Other (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). As you can see, all of these dif ferent ethnicities will definitely impact culture. So what customs will follow this diverse cultural background? Many people may assume that British Culture is defined with scones and tea, or the rich writings of Shakespeare; however it is not like this at all. There are many customs that British people practice, that Americans or any other type of nationality may find odd. Many customs are associated with the annual climate, and British Culture is once again no exception. The annual climate of the United Kingdom has temperatures that are moderated by southwest winds over the North Atlantic Current, and more than one-half of the days are overcast (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). The U.K. is also home to a constitutional monarchy (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). Although there is no defined official language due to the diverse cultural background, the primary language is English (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). About 70% of the population speaks English (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). Other languages that are frequently spoken include: Welsh, Irish, Ulster Scots, Cornish, Gaelic, and British Sign Language (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). The United Kingdom is comprised of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). Now all of these countries share a common thing, and that is to address a person from a country properly. For instance, English and British do not mean the same thing (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). The term ââ¬Å"Britishâ⬠, denotes someone who is from England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). The term ââ¬Å"Englishâ⬠, refers to people from England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). People from different countries want to be known for what they are; another example is people from Scotland are identified as ââ¬Å"Scotsâ⬠. People from Wales are identified as ââ¬Å"Welshâ⬠. People fr om Northern Ireland are identified as ââ¬Å"Irishâ⬠(UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). The Class System As many people can depict from their prior knowledge, British Culture has been known for their many kings and queens, knights, priests etc., however British Culture has changed. Yes, Britain still has and practices a monarchy form of government, but the class system is somewhat complex. Class is no longer simply about wealth or where one lives; the British are able to assume someoneââ¬â¢s class through a number of complex variables (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). Brits focus on demeanor, accents, manners, and compartment to determine and factor a class system (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). Brits are also facing a very diverse culture, therefore making it difficult to define someone British (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). Human Interactions In the United Kingdom, human interaction is of utmost importance. You do not want to offend anyone who is a native, or move there and ignore a cultureââ¬â¢s customs. Most of Britainââ¬â¢s population enjoys sport and leisure activities (Currency). In one way or another, Britainââ¬â¢s population is involved in sports or leisurely activities whether as a participant or a spectator (Currency). A difficult thing to grasp might be understanding a regional dialect, or accent (Currency). The British have been historically known for their ââ¬Å"stiff upper lipâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"blitz spiritâ⬠as demonstrated during the German bombings of World War II (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). This grin and bear it attitude in the face of adversity of embarrassment lives on today (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). In common interaction Brits do not choose to show strong emotion when engaged in conversation (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). This i s not because of their lack to feel, or rudeness; they simply just wish not to display this in public (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). In the U. K. manners are all about a reduction of violence between people (Currency). Religion Religion is a large part of British Culture. Due to the large diversity among British peoples, religion is present in many forms and beliefs. Christianity is a popular religion with many denominations such as: Anglican, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, and also Methodist. Roughly 71.6% of British population is Christian and belongs to some Christian Denomination (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). Other religious practices involved with British Culture are Muslim, Hindu, Other, and unspecified or none. Roughly 2.7% are Muslim, 1% are Hindu, 1.6% are other, and 23.1% are identified as an unspecified or none (UK Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). What does the future hold in store for British Culture? As we can see in the modern day culture is always changing. Culture is definitely different then it was in the seventeenth-century. So what does the future hold in store for British Culture? Well, according to Vikki Heywood (CBE, Chair of the RSA, and formerly executive director of the Royal Shakespeare Company), exclaimed that the commissions brought a wealth of experience in the arts and cultural sectors to the task (Kingââ¬â¢s College London). Heywood also proceeds to exclaim that there are five key goals for the future of the cultural and creative industries (Kingââ¬â¢s College London). The five goals focus on creating, harnessing, and maintaining a rich cultural and creative ecosystem that contributes to the economic and social success of all areas of the country (Kingââ¬â¢s College London). In 2013, the cultural and creative industries provided around 77 billion sterling pounds of added value to the global economy (Kingââ¬â¢s College London). So what does all of this mean? Well the answer is quite simple. The government, cultural, and creative industries need to work together to ensure that everyone has equal access to a rich cultural education, and that conditions are in place for culture, and creativity to play their part in economic success (Kingââ¬â¢s College London). In conclusion, I would say after doing somewhat extensive research, culture is a broad term. There are so many things that impact culture. All cultures are different; however I feel that I have learned an enormous amount of details from writing this paper. I do feel like I have achieved my goal of analyzing four categories or aspects of British Culture. I also feel like I have effectively covered the history, ethnicity, customs, and future direction of British Culture. British Culture is very rich in history, ethnicity, customs, and also future direction. As of right now it looks as if British Culture is evolving into a very rich and unique position of power. Herman Melville's "Bartleby, the Scrivener" is often considered such a story. Many of the characters in the story and images created allude to Melville's writing career, which was generally deemed a failure. The main character in the story can either be Bartleby or the narrator, but Melville partially embodies both of them. We are understanding towards the narrator's reasoning for keeping Bartleby and for the sympathy he shows for Bartleby. After the general failure of Moby Dick, at least in Melville's time, he immediately wrote Pierre, which was a deeply personal novel. This self pity could have been continued in "Bartleby, the Scrivener". In addition, Bartleby seemed to feel that continuing copying was worthless, possibly from spending many years in a dead letter office. Melville probably felt this way, but needed to continue writing to support his family. When Bartleby is in prison, he wastes away without abruptly dying, a degeneration until the point no one notices his absence. Melville had reached the prime of his popularity early in his career, so when he published Moby Dick, his career was already in decline. His disappointment was only to increase as his career diminished until his death which was hardly noticed in the literary community. The narrator also resembles Melville, but in a different way. Melville uses the narrator to view his own situation from a 3rd person perspective. He attempts, and is somewhat successful, in getting readers to feel sympathy for Bartleby, therefore, sympathy for him. On the contrary, the narrator also scorns Bartleby's persistence after he stops copying: "In plain fact, he had now become a millstone to meâ⬠¦"(1149). In this respect, the narrator also represents Melville's literary critics. Behind the relationship between Melville, the narrator, and Bartleby, one can also see the relationship between the narrator and an ideal audience that Melville would have wanted. He probably wished that his writing would be more popular among the readers, although he professed his own demise with Bartleby's atrophy. His other employees, Turkey, Nippers, and Ginger Nut, were similar to other writers who inspired Melville, such as tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0
